TEKTER Lime & Stone
TEKTER Lime & Stone
About me
Based in North Cornwall, I have years of experience in Lime and Stone works. I served my Stonemasonry apprenticeship with The National Trust, being trained by Master Masons at Hardwick Hall in Derbyshire. During this time I worked on period properties and estates across the country and was awarded construction apprentice of the year by York College.
I have since worked privately for a number of years as a Stonemason in building conservation companies across the Midlands before moving to the South West, I now mostly work in North Cornwall and Devon with the occasional specialist building project in Somerset. The beauty of the finish and the materials used has inspired the name of my company. Tekter is Cornish for beautiful.
I believe that traditional methods and materials continue to show their timeless value. I take my craftsmanship seriously and I have genuine passion for building restoration and conservation. Having the knowledge, skills and appreciation of these traditional approaches ensures the fabric of every project and building I work on is respected and upheld.

Why use Lime?
Lime is a traditional material that is permeable due to its open construction. This reduces the chance of moisture becoming trapped like it can do in its modern counter part materials such as cement/gypsum and therefore decreases the risk of consequent damage that trapped moisture can cause to the building fabric i.e. damp/mould.
Alongside the benefits of breathability, which is a great asset to have in our damp coastal environments in Cornwall and Devon, lime is also caustic. Caustic materials have stood the test of time for their natural disinfectant properties, this can commonly be seen in the use of limewash.
Lime plaster may be a traditional material but when applied by skilled craftspeople, the results are simply stunning. Alongside brilliant craftsmanship, this is due to the double refraction of light through its calcite crystals creating a soft texture with a beautiful (Tekter) aesthetic.
